If you were a pre-teen boy who had had his video game-playing privileges revoked and the gaming systems removed from the house on numerous occasions--once for 18 months--would you remember the rules when the game systems were reinstalled? I'm just asking.

Yes, especially if every morning when getting out of bed, one or both of my parents would ask:
1-"Please tell me why your ___________ got taken away for ___________ months (or years)?"
2 - "What are you doing that would make it obvious to me that you really want _____________ back by ____________(date)."

If mr parents made a chart listing several tasks to be performed consistently each day with a number of points to be earned/awarded to the satisfaction of a parent to reach a set goal of points to be accumulated. If the number of points to be awarded daily were not too generous, but required an extended period of performance, such that the set time goal could not be reached prematurely. The daily evaluation could mimic the "Up & att'em" report my parents had established previously.

If the game(s) was/were thrown out permantly with gusto in front me. With no promise that I would ever get a replacement.

If my parents would require that I play with the game continually until I got so sick of it that I would through it out myself.
Typos: mr=my, att'em=at'em, through=throw
